Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani officially launched the much anticipated Reliance Jio 4G services to the nation and called it as their strong passion to fulfill the Digital India dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Reliance Industries’ annual general meeting (AGM) commenced at 11am today, where Mukesh Ambani addressed a meeting on the biggest launch of the year. It will be the biggest push in the 4G telecom sector in India.
As a warm welcome offer, Ambani announced that all the Jio services, including voice, apps, and 4G LTE data will be available at free of cost to everyone from September 5 to December 31, 2016.
Ambani also noted that Jio will charge only just 5 paise per MB, or Rs.50 per GB. Also, the company will not charge for voice calls at all and will only charge a tenth of what competitors are charging for 4G data.
Jio’s 4G network covers 18,000 cities and towns, and over 2 lakh villages. By March 2017, we will cover 90% of India’s population. It will be largest 4GE network today, he said.
The company has partnered with 20 smartphone brands, including Micromax, Samsung and LG to bundle Jio SIM cards with them with free voice and data for 3 months.
He also set a target for the ‘young’ Jio team in getting 100 million customers in a very short period.
By March 2017, we’ll cover 90% of India’s population.
